MOTHERS HELP/JUNIOR NANNY

MOTHERS HELP/JUNIOR NANNY

Image

A mothers help is as carer who has got a genuine interest in children who works under supervision on the daily running of the household. The mothers’ help you get from us will have at least 1 year relevant experience and/or a qualification. Duties regarding children will be according to their experience, the type of household and the ages of the children. An extra hand rather than someone who takes charge. Depending on the childcare responsibilities expected, they will be able to help around the house with light housework and run errands. If she’s experienced and confident enough she can take sole charge of the children at times. Unlike most nannies, mothers’ helps will normally do some light housework (dusting, hoovering etc.).

A mothers help can be either live-in or live-out and we have got Mothers helps from Sweden, UK, Romania, France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and many other countries. We have mothers help roles all over the UK and overseas throughout the year.

We also run super nanny courses, First aid courses and MNT training at our MBA Awards for qualifications.

Junior Nanny is either:
an ex au-pair with least 1 year childcare experience
a recently qualified nanny with little/moderate (less than 2 years) practical experience

Apart from having usual nanny roles for qualified and very experienced nannies, we also have families willing to hire a junior nanny/mothers help or au-pair. These roles can be well paid too and we are experts in placing the right candidate in the right role. After 1 year as an au pair/ junior nanny or similar, we expect the junior nannies and mother’s helps to be up to scratch as a “normal nanny”

Recommended rates of pay for mother’s helps:

Live in MH: The going rate starts from £175-£325 net per week for a 5 day week.

Daily MH FT or PT: The going rate is between £7-9 net per hour.

The price varies a great deal depending on the location of the role, number of children, duties, expectations and requirement.

We are happy to discuss the various rate

An Au Pair Vs. Nanny: What’s The Difference?

Are you weighing au pairs vs. nannies to hire? It’s a good idea to get informed about both your options before you make your choice. Both types of childcare have pros and cons and it’s important to weigh your decision carefully to figure out what option works best for your family. Here are a few things to consider when you’re weighing an au pair vs. nanny.

An au pair is a foreign young person who comes to the UK to work in exchange for housing under a prescribed set of guidelines and weekly au pair pocket money.

A nanny is a broader term to refer to anyone a family employs to look after a child or children in the household.

Nannies are typically residents of the UK but not always from the UK. Nannies can be Swedish, French, British, German or other.

Nannies can be live-in or live-out, while all au pairs must be live-in childcare providers.

Au pairs may or may not have prior childcare experience, so it’s important to check with the agency if a candidate has worked with children before.

Nannies can provide full-time or part-time childcare for your family, depending on your needs.

Au pairs typically provide up to 45 hours of childcare a week.

Both au pairs and nannies can provide household upkeep services. If you’re working with an au pair agency, it’s important to find out exactly what services an au pair will provide. If you are screening a nanny, you can discuss individual job duties with an applicant.

If you’re hiring a nanny, you have a range of options but the best one is to use a good nanny agency.

Au pairs may speak little English causing a language barrier.

An Au Pair: What Will It Really Cost You?

If you’re considering an au pair for your household, the good news is that the guidelines for how much you should pay her are pretty clear. £70-150 per week but it depends on the hours and the agency will help with this.

The agency fee covers the processing of the paperwork. The placement fee covers the cost of recruiting and screening an au pair, a local ref, training program, some courses, an au pair network and much more.

Benefits of Hiring a Nanny over an Au Pair

Weighing in on the decision over whether a nanny or au pair works better as a childcare solution for your family isn’t easy. If you’re looking for reasons why hiring a nanny is better than an au pair, read on.

Childcare isn’t a decision to make lightly. When you decide to hire a nanny, you can meet an applicant face to face in an interview and see how that person interacts with your child.

If you decide to hire a nanny over an au pair, you can limit your search locally with a good agency.

When hiring a nanny, you can be more flexible about the qualifications you’re looking for. Whether it’s a certain number of years of experience, CPR certification, or the ability to work part-time hours, you’re not limited to a prescribed search criteria set up by an au pair agency. Nannies do not necessarily have limitations in terms of duties, hours, commitment period, schooling, etc. as au pairs do.

How Au Pair Agencies Work

One way to get childcare help is through an au pair agency.

However, typically, you can contact one of the au pair agencies by phone or through their website. A coordinator will get in contact with you and inform you how their program works. The coordinator will then match you with an au pair based on your time frame and requirements or you could receive a list of au pairs to choose from.

Understanding the Au Pair Program

If you’re a family in need of more affordable childcare for up to 45 hours a week, the au pair program is a viable solution for your needs. An au pair program matches your family with a screened childcare provider who will live in your home in exchange for a monthly stipend. Typically, the au pair is a young person who wishes to live in the United Kingdom for a time period while watching a family’s child or children. An au pair may reside in your home for just the summer or for up to two years.

Au pairs must have their own room, the provision of food, one and a half days off every week, and a full weekend off every month. Part of the expense of paying an au pair includes an amount towards the au pair’s educational expenses. An au pair has proficiency in conversational English and typically has a minimum amount of childcare experience. Au pairs have a standard weekly stipend that the host family pays.

When an Au Pair Might Be the Right Choice

Hiring a nanny isn’t necessarily right for every family situation. Sometimes, an au pair does make a better childcare choice. Here are some situations where an au pair makes better sense:

If you want temporary childcare just for the summer, an au pair could work out best. Au pair programs provide temporary childcare during the summer months.

You’re comfortable with a live-in childcare situation and want to welcome a foreign student as part of your family. If you’re interested in offering your home as a host family to a young person from another country so that you can have childcare, an au pair might be better for you.

You’re looking for an affordable option and are comfortable with having an au pair agency screen an applicant for you. Nanny wages can vary widely. However, on the whole, an au pair is an affordable option. The monthly stipend can be less than some nanny wages when you compare the cost of a live-in nanny.

Preventing Potential Disaster: Collaborating with Your Nanny Agency

Armed with your family’s needs list and job description it’s time to approach your nanny agency. There are many benefits of utilizing a nanny agency to find your family’s new nanny.

First and foremost, a nanny agency, especially Peek-a-boo or the ones of that calibre is made up of professionals well-versed in this process. This piece in itself is invaluable. Often nanny agencies have been started by former nannies who know the industry inside and out. Hiring a nanny agency saves you significant time and effort by prescreening applicants. They meet with prospective applicants in person, review resumes, help the nanny narrow down what they need and want, all in the best interest of helping you to find the right match! They complete nanny background checks, gather pertinent information such as driving records, CRB tests, interviews and reference checks. They can also provide you with nanny tax and payroll information as well as resources to provide ongoing support once you have found the right nanny.

The prescreening process also means you won’t be inundated with resumes. A good nanny agency only sends you the most appropriate applicants for your family, not a copy of every resume they receive. Once you receive resumes of potential applicants from the nanny agency, you will spend some time reviewing those resumes to decide whom you think is appropriate for your family to interview. Your nanny agency will be available during this time to discuss the details of these potential applicants as well.

The nanny interview process is one that can bring up a lot of feelings. As a parent you want so much to find the right nanny for your child, however, these feelings, if not identified and addressed, could inhibit you from finding the right person. You may be feeling fearful about having someone else care for your newborn, or you may be overwhelmed at the thought of using alternative resources to help you find your nanny. Due to your family’s schedule, you may feel pressed to go with the first applicant you interview. Or your family may still be recovering from the departure of your last nanny. These are all common experiences that if not properly addressed, may effect your ability to find the right nanny for your family.

As The director of Peek-a-boo and a former nanny of many years – I cannot stress enough the importance of developing your family’s needs list and job description. These two documents will guide both you and your nanny agency through the interview process. Your nanny agency will be better equipped to identify potential applicants, and you will be much more aware of what your family needs.

After you narrow down the potential applicants, your nanny agency will take steps to set up interviews for you with the applicants in your home. It is incredibly important that you prepare for these interviews. I know it’s tough when you have a baby to feed and a toddler to drop off and a house to run, but the time spent preparing for the interview can be priceless. That time spent screening out potential problematic applicants will save you time down the road. If you can, find time at night after the children are in bed to review your interview questions. If you don’t have time, I recommend you seek out help from a professional who is knowledgeable of this step. Failing to ask the right nanny interview questions could result in a failed match. All to often I see families who become engaged in conflict with their nanny over an issue that could have easily been avoided if only it had been asked about during the interview.
